Extreme Weather

Measuring weather.

Definitions:

  1. Anemometer:
  2. Beaufort wind scale:

Anemometer

MATERIALs  

  1. chop sticks x2   
  2.  cello tape 
  3. 4 glass cups   
  4. pencil 
  5. pin

STEPS

  1. cello tape the cups to each end of the sticks 
  2.   cellotape the sticks together to make a cross 
  3.   put the pin across the cross 
  4.   
  5.   

Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5 
Roles:

  • Timekeeper ( watch)
  • Counter
  • Recorder ( chromebook or refill )
  • Anemometer Manager ( Anemometer)
  • Wind Manager

Instructions:
  • Go to the measuring place and set up your wind gauge.
  • Make sure everyone in your group is ready to start their roles.
  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • Count the number of spins in 15 seconds.
  • Record it on your chart.

Conclusion:

The wind speed on the field was 20 spins per kilometre in 15 seconds and the wind speed was 13-20 and Beaufort scale was 3 .

The wind speed on old j block was 15 spins per minuet and the wind speed was 12-14 and the Beaufort scale was 2.

The grass hill was 5 spins per minuet the wind speed was 6-12 and the Beaufort scale was 2.

The tennis court was 3 spins per minuet and the wind speed was 2-5 and the Beaufort scale is 1.

Hurumanu Science 2040

Hello Bloggers, Im back with another blog post and in class we watched this documentary about now and 2040. It was very interesting and it made me think about what we should do to stop global warming and climate change. The world in 2040 is so much better than what it is now if only there was a time traveller and I would travel to 2040. The documentary showed us all the good and negative things. It was very helpful if your wondering the documentary is called 2040.

The things that I learnt was that the more things you use that has gas in it makes theese fumes go up into the air and become bad and the way to stop that is to stop driving your vehicles as much but you could ride a scooter or a bike which is more safe for the environment. The more we used public transport which can get really dangerous and if we got rid of most vehicles the roads would be more safer and better for people. 

What surprised me? The thing that surprised we was that how much the world changed in 2040 and everything was better and much safer and climate change and global warming stopped and it became much better that what it is now.

The thing that was most exciting was public transport was electric and you didn't need to drive and you told it where you wanted to go and you didn't need to worry about parking.

The thing that worried me that if we kept going the way we are going the world is just gonna fall apart and if we dont start its just gonna go down hill.

The thing that I want to see in 2040 is everything that was happening in 2040 in the documentary because it just looked amazing I hope we changed our world so its like that .

Hurumanu the water cycle



AIM: TO LEARN ABOUT WATER ON EARTH.




Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.
Bag 1 cycles I give it  2 points 
Bag 2 Doesn't cycle I give it one point and it isn't like acid and the paper turned blue

Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like Antarctica in climate change 
Conclusion the water cycle without acid cycled. The water cycle with acid didn't cycle because to much people were touching it .

1x cup of water  water 

2x drops food colouring blue

1x strip of double sided tape 


Materials two 

One zip lock bag 

One permanent marker

One cup of hot water 

Two drops of blue food colouring

One piece of litmus paper

One cup of baking powder







Steps

first step 

Get a large zip lock bag

Step two 

Get a permanent marker and draw the water cycle

Step three 

Carefully poor 1 cup of cold water and put it in your zip lock bag

Step four 

Carefully put two drops of food dye in the zip lock bag 

Step five 

Mix the blue food colouring until mixed

Step six 

Close the ziplock bag carefully

Step seven 

Get some two sided  tape and stick it out on the window the drawing facing out to the window keep it there for two weeks make sure the window has sunlight

Expirement  two

    Recycling pens and markers

    Hello bloggers 
    I'm back with another blog post and this time it's about what Hornby high school is doing. We are collecting  old stationery that we don't need or doesn't work anymore we need your your help!
